And the Puppy Ain’t Here Yet
This is the story of before, a story of change; for Eric, and for America. And while for Eric, “before” meant family, childhood, a city, college, friends, a career, America was growing up too – and as Eric’s life changed around him, America changed, and madly… seismically… crises in the 50’s, crises in the 60’s
And while for Eric, “before” meant family, childhood, a city, college, friends, a career, America was growing up too – and as Eric’s life changed around him, America changed, and madly… seismically… crises in the 50’s, crises in the 60’s, rampant change for all of Society…
America went through massive growing pains: Turmoil, Upset, and Mayhem reigned (and Eric marched along in tandem… hut one, hut two, Hut…) as “Traditional” Society morphed into the Different, and the “Different” morphed into the Modern, and the “Modern” marched on into the NOW!
But this is the story of before, the present is a long way off, though it’s oncoming like a freight train…

Awesome Got to be five stars for this awesome book.
This prequel to the author’s “Puppy Series” is a wonderful, thought-provoking look at the events and times that shaped the life of the main character… The book is always interesting and never drags… despite its length. I was engaged from the beginning through to the end.
A great read!
So, I haven’t read any of this author’s stuff before. I was pleasantly surprised with what I found – there’s a nice pace to his writing, descriptions are full of detail (but don’t drone on), and he has an instinct for writing from each character’s perspective.
Without spoiling the book at all, there’s no beating around the bush, and I respect that as a reader. I’ll be looking out for some more titles in the future.
The first thing you’ve gotta know about this book is that it is BIG. B. I. G. So don’t even think about picking it up if you want a quick read. It is like reading a Dickensian classic or something…
Life is not easy and that is the case for Eric. I have read books by EP Lee before and I think that set me up nicely for this one. The idea of a prequel is kind of interesting when you consider the idea of there always being a before. What comes before a prequel: a pre-prequel?
Anyway, look, EP Lee’s books all join up and reading one is complementary to reading the others so I would give this the thumbs up for all fans.
